We are excited to host the 4th annual Hilton Head Island Italian Heritage Festival at Shelter Cove Community Park. This year's celebration will be bigger and better than ever – a robust celebration of Italian culture with food, live entertainment, a pasta-eating contest, grape stomping, cooking demos, a bocce ball tournament and more!
The festival will offer a full slate of activities for locals and visitors. A number of booths will be dedicated to traditional Italian foods, such as cheeses, breads, pasta, fish, meatballs, sausage and calzones, and delicious sweets, including Italian ice, gelato, biscotti and zeppolis – many sponsored by local restaurants. The festival will also feature a special events stage where attendees can enjoy a grape stomping contest, reminiscent of the iconic I Love Lucy episode, a pasta-eating contest, and a restaurant-only "best meatball" contest for island bragging rights.
Cooking enthusiasts / "foodies" will not want to miss the festival's variety of unique cooking demonstrations. Come learn how to make perfect pizzelle (waffle cookies), homemade sausage, fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheese, and limoncello – an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy.
For the sports-inclined, the festival will offer bocce (one of Italy’s national pastimes), a golf challenge and stickball – participants can learn and play, or just watch. Attendees can also test their strength on the High Striker (hammer & bell), as well as test their aim at the dunk tank.
The festival will also feature some new surprises this year. Who knows, famous Italian explorer Christopher Columbus may make an appearance!
